What is your pet’s ideal vacation? For a dog, perhaps 700 acres of trees? A huge Frisbee field, or fresh-baked dog biscuits? For a cat, the bliss of a down comforter or snoozing on the back of a stuffed chair by a window? And for all, a warm sleeping spot in front of the fire? The Savage River Lodge has it all.
The Lodge boasts 18 luxury cabins, all except four of which are pet friendly, furnished with sink-into sofas, soft linens in the loft bedroom and gas fireplaces downstairs. The amenities don’t stop just at humans! Let the Guest Services Representatives know that you’re bringing a pet and they will place a bundle of dog bowls, blankets and towels in your cabin before you arrive! Bump up to a Pamper Your Pet Basket with a new hair brush and doggie breath mints, a bamboo bowl and matching food scoop and of course, more treats!
Wake up each morning to a muffin and orange juice delivered to your porch, and a garlic cheddar Bodhi Biscuit for Fido! Explore 14 miles of hiking trails full of fresh air for you, and new and intriguing smells for your dog. But be sure to be back by 3:00 on Saturday, because that’s Yappy Hour! That means time to mix and mingle with other dog lovers at the field below the main lodge for sniffing, snuffling, rolling about and all those fun things dogs do when they’ve made friends.
Guests visit the Lodge with mouthwatering visions of filet mignon, seafood, and gluten-free fare they can’t get anywhere else, and once pets have visited, they’ll agree! Treat your pet to dinner off the Bone Appetit Menu for Mutt Meatballs, Canine Casserole filled with beef, vegetables and rice and Fruity Pupcicles for dessert. While the Lodge’s gourmet restaurant is for humans only, visit while the weather is warm to enjoy lunch and the sights and sounds of the forest from an Adirondack chair on the new pet dining terrace!
If you’re the adventurous traveler, take a day trip down the road to New Germany State Park to hike the trails and take a dip in the reservoir. Visit Deep Creek Lake to rent a kayak or boat with your favorite four-legged fishing buddy and hike to the old Brant coal mine and homesite on Meadow Mountain to learn the story of a courageous coal mining duo in the 1920s.
