This year was a wonderful and busy year for us here’s a little recap…
January: Very little snowfall in Garrett County. Lodge guests were still hiking and even biking. KoKo and Karma turned 2 years old on January 30!
February: Our first wine tasting that kicked off the the 2012 tasting events was held the last weekend. We featured Spanish wines. Still very little snow this month and guests were biking and hiking throughout.
March: Three Chef for a Day cooking instructions in one month! We also found out which awards we won from Maryland’s Free State’s Finest Contest! Hosted New Belgium Brewing Company for an excellent beer tasting.
April: Happy first birthday to our 325 panel solar system! We also hit a record this month for the second most KWH generated in one day. We officially received our Maryland Life Free State’s Finest awards for 2012; finest fine dining, finest couple’s getaway and finest dessert. We were also chosen as editor’s choice for finest weekend resort. In honor of Earth Day, we had our first annual sustainable wine tasting.
May: We’re inundated with bike shuttles! We had one of the busiest years for biking and fly fishing, probably largely due to the unseasonably warm temperatures. We hired out new executive chef, Tylor Dinteman, and he’s been a hit every since!
June: Jan and Emily presented Maryland and Virginia wines this month. We had a great retreat with LP Building products, where they went fishing at Deep Creek Lake. Fran “Pineapple” Schmitz tasted us on Villa Maria Winery this month as well. Jan turned 62 and officially signed up for Social Security.
July: Mike and Jan took their first vacation in a long time to the Napa Valley. From this trip, we’ve organized our WineTime Tour: Napa 2013!
August: We had our annual Lodge Club picnic and Habitat for Humanity picnic, where we raised over $3,000! Mike rode 61 miles on the bike trail in honor of his 61st birthday. Mike took Lodge employees on a rafting trip to experience Adventure Water Sports International.
September: Our Sam Adam’s Beer tasting was a huge hit! We raised money for the Great American Dine Out. This month also holds the record day for most KWH ever generated from our solar panels. Jan’s mom Bea also turned 90 this month! We hosted Sweetgreen’s corporate retreat where we did our first ever farm-to-table dinner.
October: We had a great celebration for National Beer Day. Hurricane Sandy dumped two feet of heavy wet snow on us and left us without power for five days. Earlier in the month, we had a successful Side by Side wine tasting.
November: Between Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday and the tastings this month was a busy one! Goose Island Brewing Company and an Around the World Wine Tasting both happened this month and we drank some great things.
December: We hosted the Select Registry Region 5 inn keeping conference and hosted over 12 of our favorite inns and B&Bs from around Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and West Virginia. We had our annual Party Planning Wine tasting, which was a huge hit.
